Zach has provided us with some addtional information:
Team,
Since the Team has grown, there are a few of us who can’t easily reach the W2OFD repeater in Brookhaven Hamlet.
As a result we are going to have all future nets on the W2DQ Repeater. 145.210 – PL 136.5.
In the event that the W2DQ repeater is unavailable, switch up to the W2DQ 70cm Repeater. 446.625 – PL 110.9.
A Special Thanks to the Suffolk County Radio Club for the use of the W2DQ repeater system.
Useful and Free Repeater Directories:
An excellent Web source of repeater information is the The New York Repeater Directory.
For those of us with smartphones and tablets, install Repeaterbook.
Team – Emergency Phone Numbers Page Set Up
Gil KC2WCB and I had an extended conversation with Ken KD2DZZ after the Suffolk County Radio Club Rag Chew Net on 12/17/14. First I’d like to say thanks to Ken for joining our team. I am sure his expertise in Rescue Services will become a huge asset to the team.
Ken explained that his Ambulance Service has been discussing the addition of Amateur Radio equipment to their Headquarters. Since that’s the case, we spoke at some length how ACT might provide secondary communications under certain conditions.
Ken asked how the ACT Team might provide assistance to the Medford Ambulance Company. Gil and Ken then discussed a scenario where an Ambulance on call may need to be re-routed due to downed wires or trees, blizzard conditions, etc. Gil stated that ACT could pass “up to the minute” routing information over to the Ambulance via Headquarter’s Amateur Radio equipment.
Ken, Gil and I went on to discuss the possibility of approaching the Medford Ambulance Company and possibly other Ambulance Companies in the area with a short presentation to demonstrate how ACT may fit in.
Finally, Ken and I spoke about local, State and Federal Emergency Contact numbers. Ken stated that he would provide the team with an extensive list of emergency numbers. I received the list and began reviewing it. At this point I have started a new page of emergency numbers. It will take some time to get through Ken’s extensive list.
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Emergency Phone Numbers. Why not print out copies for your vehicles, kitchen drawer, Ham Shack, etc.
I attended the Suffolk County Radio Club meeting this evening. Our team has now received official authorization to use the SCRC 2 Meter repeater for future ACT Nets.
This gracious offer, extended by Greg KC2GGH (President) and Tony KB2HRB (Vice President) will help as the team grows and coverage is expanded.
Since the topic of the ACT Team concept was brought up I spent a few minutes talking about the group, what we intend to accomplish and explained how to use the online form to sign up. If you want more information about ACT feel free to view our About Page.
As a result of the meeting tonight I’d like to welcome two new Team members, Jeff N2OEP and Gary N2TBC. Thanks for joining our Team guys!
Regards,
Gary KE2YK
